Estimating stock levels in periodic review inventory systems

چکیده
Calculating the mean physical stock in a simple periodic review inventory system seems to be straightforward. However, the standard approximate expressions appear to yield inaccurate results, especially for low service levels. Low service levels are frequently encountered at intermediate nodes in cost-optimal solutions for multiechelon systems. In this note, we present an improved approximate method that is both simple and accurate.

Stochastic Inventory Models with Limited Production Capacity and Periodically Varying Parameters
We consider a single-item, periodic-review inventory model with uncertain demands in which each period's production volume is limited by a capacity level. The demand distributions, capacity levels, and cost parameters vary according to a periodic pattern. We prove that modified base-stock policies are optimal for the finite-horizon planning model and for both the infinite-horizon discounted and...
متن کاملFill rate of single-stage general periodic review inventory systems
We consider a single-stage inventory system supplying external demands and receiving stocks from an ample supply. Time is divided into periods of xed length; a period can be a day or a week depending on the situation. In each period, demands arrive and are either lled or backlogged. The system operates under a general periodic-review base-stock policy. Under this policy, the inventory positio...
متن کاملOrder splitting under periodic review inventory systems
Most research on order splitting have focused on the reduction of safety stock in the multiple sourcing setting. Moreover, all works study the use of order splitting for the continuous review inventory systems. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of the multiple-delivery arrangement in the sole sourcing environment. In addition, we concentrate on the reduction of cycle stock for perio...
متن کاملOptimal Control of One-warehouse Multi-retailer Systems with Discrete Demand
This paper considers a two-echelon distribution system which consists of a single warehouse serving N (possibly non-identical) retailers that face discrete stochastic demand of the customers. The warehouse orders from an exogenous supplier with ample stock. Orders arrive at the warehouse after a fixed leadtime. The warehouse satisfies, if possible, the replenishment requests from the retailers....
متن کاملOptimization of two-stage production/inventory systems under order base stock policy with advance demand information
It is important to share demand information among the members in supply chains. In recent years, production and inventory systems with advance demand information (ADI) have been discussed, where advance demand information means the information of demand which the decision maker obtains before the corresponding actual demand arrives. Appropriate production and inventory control using demand info...
